147)įinally, 3rd level Champion gets Improved Critical, which is a really big deal. Two-Weapon Fighting Style allows ability modifier to add to damage on secondary attack (non-Fighters don't get this, PH, P, 72)įinesse allows the PC to use Dex mod instead of Str mod (PH, p. 195)Ģnd Level Fighter gets Action Surge, which allows an additional Action (and therefore, two more attacks, PH, p. Wielding two Light weapons allows an additional attack as a bonus action (PH, p. That means she can deal, even at minimum damage rolls, up to 30 pts of damage in a single combat turn, or with max damage and critical hits, up to 85 pts of damage.ĥth level Fighter gets two attacks per Action (PH, p. Because of Finesse, she has up to five attacks per combat turn (using Action Surge, 4 regular attacks, plus bonus action attack), and a +8 to hit and +5 to damage with a non-magical weapon. I'm currently playing a 7th Level (+3 proficiency bonus), 20 DEX (+5 bonus) Human Fighter/Champion who uses dual shortswords. They are both fine just the way they are. What? There's nothing at all wrong with Two-Weapon Fighting or Dual Wielder. Rogues still love it because one attack with advantage is everything they ever wanted, L2 rangers aren't getting two Hunter's Mark dice, and you get a mechanical reason to roll both attack dice at once (which why wasn't the player doing that already? Nevermind I don't care). TWF is now the accurate style, as opposed to shield for the defensive style and two-handed for the big damage style. Remove the fighting style and the feat because you don't need them. You want a patch, and it's 5e, so simpler is better, right? No messing around with modifiers: TWF lets you hit only with your main weapon strike(s), but gives advantage on your first attack roll. Meanwhile rogues need it as a backup plan because it's a second chance to proc sneak attack if they couldn't get advantage and missed the first attack. It's a mess, and especially so in Eberron with the elf sword is just better Str-TWF for anyone who can get one (and better dex-twf from L4 but only for elves, W/E). TWF is the strongest fighting style at level 1, and the weakest from around 11 depending on build.
